Actor career
Juhi Chawla (Juha’s name, by the way, can be translated from Hindi as “jasmine”) was born in 1967. Since childhood, she wanted to become an actress. However, at first she showed herself as a model and winner of beauty contests. In 1984, the girl won the title of "Miss India", and a little later took part in the contest "Miss Universe".
Juha's debut in cinema took place in 1986, she starred in the film "Sultan's possessions", which, however, turned out to be a failure.
Two years later, the aspiring actress got the main role in the film "The Sentence" - a kind of adaptation of Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet." And this picture was simply a stunning success both among critics and the audience. The image of the beautiful Ramsha in “Sentence” brought Juhi the Filmfare Award “For Best Debut” and at the same time the nomination in the category “For Best Actress”.
In 1989, the film "Vicki Dada" was released, where Juhi Chawla again played the main role - the role of Shravani, the lover of a young lawyer who decided to become an advocate for the poor and destitute.
In 1990, Juhi Chawla starred in the drama "Paradise" (directed by David Dhawan) in the image of Joty, the sister of Kumar, a wealthy man who, having become the president of the Association of Industrialists, faces serious problems … It is worth noting that the paintings "Paradise "and" Sentence "can still be found on the Internet in Soviet dubbing.
She became famous all over the world after playing Vaijayanti Ayer in the melodrama "Towards Love". According to the plot of this picture, the girl Vaijayanti, who escaped from her parents, once meets at the fair three children who are under the care of the wealthy bachelor Rakhul Malhotra. Children invite her to the house of Rahul, they want her to play with them, because they often get tired of the changing nannies. Once Rakhul notices a stranger, but decides not to drive her away, but to give her a job. Over time, feelings arise between them …
Then there were a few more paintings with the participation of Juha Chawla, which the Indian audience enthusiastically accepted - “The Season of Love”, “God Knows”, “Crack”, “How They Wiped Their Noses”, etc.
In the 2000s, Juhi Chawla quite often began to appear in independent and author's cinema. But in recent years, her game can again be seen in films designed for the mass audience. The most striking works of Juha Chawla of recent times are roles in the films Pink Brotherhood (2014), Chalk and the Rag (2016), and What I felt when I saw this girl (2019).
