From the biography of Maria Lukyanovna Biesu
The future opera singer was born on August 3, 1935 in the southern part of Moldova, in the village of Volontirovka, in the most ordinary family. She inherited a love of music from her parents. Masha took part in amateur performances both at school and while studying at an agricultural technical school. After participating in the national competition of folk talents, stage masters strongly recommended that Mary go to study at the Chisinau State Conservatory.
Freshman Bieshu successfully performed at concerts of the World Festival of Youth and Students in the capital of the USSR. She sang Moldavian folk songs here. Three years later, Maria was invited to the ensemble "Flurash". However, even undoubted success did not bring Bies full satisfaction - she was attracted to herself by the opera scene. At the end of the conservatory in 1961, Maria joined the troupe of the State Opera and Ballet Theater of Moldova.
The outstanding talent of the young singer, experts noted immediately. She was offered to go to Italy to train at the La Scala Theater. After the internship, the singer repeatedly participated in various competitions, where her performing talent was awarded with awards of various levels.
Gradually, the name of Maria Bieshu gained worldwide fame. Her invites to sing in Belgrade, Warsaw, Prague, Sofia, Helsinki, Leipzig. Mary had a chance to tour Australia and Japan. She performed in Paris and Cuba, in Rio de Janeiro and in West Berlin.
