At the age of twenty, Barker creates with his friends his own small musical theater, where they stage performances, imitating the famous French horror theater Grand Guignol. Barker also became interested in cinema and made his first short films, where all the roles were played by his friends.
A few years later, Clive goes to London, where he begins to engage not only in writing, but also in painting. Soon, a young artist and writer receives an order from the famous musical group The Who to create a cover for their new album.
The work of Barker interested Ramsey Campbell. And soon he introduces the talented young man to the famous editor and literary critic D. Winter. A year later, Clive writes the script for the film "Underworld", but the resulting film did not satisfy him, because Barker decides to take up directing on his own. In 1987, he directed the movie HellRaiser in his own script, which later became one of the best horror films.
Two years later, Barker moved to the United States, began work on a new book, The Apparition of Secrets, and continued to direct. Soon the movie, shot based on the book "Tribe of Darkness", is released. The film was a great success with the audience, became the basis for creating a series of comics and a computer game.
Having earned enough money, Barker acquires one of the mansions in London and begins to write the next book, Imagika, which has become one of his favorite works.
All the works of Barker are created in the genre of horror. He himself more than once explained this by the fact that from a young age he was always interested in mysticism and otherworldly phenomena. Literary critics call Clive one of the best authors working in the genre of horror and fantasy.
