Biography
Anna was born in December 1970. Her great-grandmother was originally from St. Petersburg, but she left for France as a young woman. The girl grew up very cheerful and sociable. At school, Anna was an avid visionary, she loved to write essays. The teacher read aloud almost every of her work. The divorce of parents was a turning point in the life of the girl. At age 14, she was sent to study in a boarding school.
Student years were spent at the Sorbonne. In the evenings, Anna worked part-time as a journalist and as a waitress in a local cafe. She did not spend the money she earned on entertainment, but on food and housing. At that time, the girl did not even suspect that the experience gained would be useful to her in life.
In 1992, Gavalda won the literary competition held by a large radio station. Anna wrote a letter on behalf of a man. This fact excited the jury. They were very surprised at how a young girl understands male psychology.
Anna could not finish her studies, so she got a job as a teacher in college. She taught first graders French. At leisure, the girl continued to invent stories. When enough of them accumulated, Gavalda realized that it was time to open them to the world. That is how the debut book turned out.
In 1998, Anna Gavalda became the winner of the prestigious contest "Blood in the Inkwell". Good luck brought her the work "Aristote".
In 1999, the book "I would like to …" was published. She quickly won the readership, and critics were supportive. France was stunned by the talent of the young writer. It was she who was able to revive the public's interest in short stories. For several years, the book has been translated into 30 languages.
In 2002, the debut novel "I Loved It" was released. In the very first days of sales, readers dared from the shelves all copies of the print run. It was a real success. Five years later, the film “Just Together” was filmed. The main role in the film was played by Audrey Tautou. At the moment, Anna Gavalda continues to write stories and works in the magazine "Elle".
