American McGee is a well-known American game developer and designer. Recognition came to him in the mid-90s after creating the appearance of landscapes for shooters Doom and Quake. In 2000, he released his own game about Alice based on the tales of Lewis Carroll.

early years
American James McGee was born December 13, 1972 in Dallas, Texas. The mother, who was a creative person, insisted on an unusual name. In an interview, American admitted that he was pretty tired of the question from those around him whether he had a real name. As a child, he even complexed about this.
Shortly after the birth of Americana, his father left the family. His upbringing was carried out by his mother, who was not very strict. This is probably why the son grew up a bully.
From early childhood, McGee showed a keen interest in technology. At 11, his uncle gave him the first computer for the holiday. On it, a young American learned to write codes in BASIC.
At age 12, he was caught stealing in a computer store. In an interview, American recalled how ashamed he was when the police handcuffed him and defiantly led him through the store. Even after this, he did not have a rejection of technology.
At 16, McGee became financially independent. He was a dishwasher, jewelry polisher, assistant car mechanic. In his spare time, American tried to create programs to organize the clients of a car workshop. Soon his work was noticed by a professional developer who told McGee that the programs he wrote were expensive.
In 1992, American met John Carmack, the developer and founder of id Software. Thanks to him, McGee got a job in tech support. At first he was a simple tester.
Career
In 1993, American tried his hand at level design and game soundtrack. Then he created the entourage of landscapes for Doom and the first two parts of Quake.
Soon, American left id Software. Moving to Eidos Interactive Ltd, he worked on Dominion 3 and Timeline, but he quickly went to Electronic Arts, where he took the chair of the director of creative workers.
In 1999, American developed his best and most famous game, American McGee's Alice. Her plot is twisted around the girl Alice from the tales of L. Carroll. The video game was a success not only in the States, but also in many countries of the world.
Shortly after the release of his brainchild, American left Electronic Arts. A few months later he created his own company. The new business was quite profitable.
